This three day course is constructed to address all aspects of specimen preparation for microstructural analysis, as well as optical microscopy and hardness testing. The idea is to develop a technical understanding Extensive practical sessions on specimen preparation and demonstration of analysis techniques, for various materials.

Getting The Best from your SEM  (Venues and dates TBC)

This day is intended to provide the attendee with an overview of best principles and practice in preparing samples for the SEM, and the use of the SEM for various imaging and analysis techniques including Electron Back-Scatter Diffraction.  Demonstration of techniques in mechanical preparation and the SEM will be given.

Mechanical Preparation Workshop (Venues and dates TBC)

This day is intended to provide the attendee with an overview of mechanical preparation techniques with focus on best results whilst economising on time and cost.  Principles of sectioning, mounting, grinding and polishing as well as the fundamentals of light optical microscopy will be covered.
